HIKEs in sedona

Devils Bridge
Distance: 4 miles
Difficulty: Moderate (easy at first, then moderate uphill towards the end)
Elevation Changes: 520 ft
Time: 2 hours
Wow! What a view. This hike is notorious for having huge crowds at the top – but for good reason. In high season, people can wait up to two hours for a picture on the famed Devil’s Bridge. We got lucky and the hiking gods were on our side with this one. We went on a Tuesday at 3 pm in January and had no wait. There was one other couple that offered to take our picture and we returned the favor. Our best recommendation to avoid a wait is to visit during off-season at a random time. The hike itself is a mix of some uphill and some flat portions. The first part of the trail is a dirt road that you’ll share with jeeps doing an off-road tour. Then you’ll hike straight up to the viewpoint and come back the way you came.

Boynton Canyon
Distance: 7.2 miles
Difficulty: Moderate
Elevation Changes: 964 ft
Time: 3 hours
This is a great trail to an energy vortex. The trail starts behind the Enchantments hotel. You’ll walk on sand for a little bit before it becomes hard packed dirt again. This trail is remarkable and we took some of our favorite photos at the subway cave part of this hike. You will need to scramble up to the cave. It looks intimidating, but it’s not as hard as it seems and totally worth the effort. While the vista at the end of the trail is nice, we thought the subway cave was cooler. We did lose the trail once or twice, so we suggest using AllTrails to make sure you’re on track.

Images from left to right are: Cathedral Rock Trail, Boynton Canyon, Soldiers Pass.

Cathedral Rock Trail
Distance: 1.2 miles
Difficulty: Moderate – Hard
Elevation Changes: 741 ft
Time: 1 hour
For this trail, you’ll be scaling red rocks. Make sure to wear shoes with a good grip! It’s a steep climb and you’ll be scrambling on your hands and knees for parts of it and twisting in between some boulders. It’s short and steep, but the view is fantastic!
There aren’t a ton of parking spots here. We went for sunset and had to wait for someone to leave their spot to park. They do offer a shuttle service to make it easier to get there.

Soldiers Pass to Seven Pools
Distance: 3 miles
Difficulty: Easy – Moderate
Elevation Changes: 436 ft
Time: 2 hours
There are a bunch of different trails in this area to get to the Seven Sacred Pools. The trail is mostly flat, with beautiful views throughout. We went late and didn’t have time, but you can also hike to caves which look pretty cool. Parking can be tricky here. We went late in the day during shoulder season and got one of the last spots open. There is a shuttle service from Sedona.

Elote Cafe
Anyone who’s visited Sedona recommended visiting Elote Cafe. While the food was great (especially the queso dip!) we felt that it was overpriced for Mexican food – but we’re also penny-pinchers and try to cook when possible.

Chai Spot
If you drink one thing in Sedona, it should be butter chai from the Chai Cafe. It’s like drinking cake – basically dessert – and who doesn’t love cake!? They also have the cutest, brightest, seating area, filled with the most colorful cushions and pillows to sit back, relax, and enjoy your drink.

Coffee Pot Restaurant
I love eating at a good old fashioned diner. The Coffee Pot is a great spot if you’re craving a big ol’ omelet with hash browns – and of course coffee.
